A Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) is a specialized HVAC system designed to handle the conditioning of 100% fresh outdoor air before it’s introduced into a building’s indoor spaces.
Dedicated Fresh Air Supply: Unlike traditional HVAC systems where outdoor air is often mixed with return air and then conditioned, a DOAS unit specifically focuses on treating only the incoming outside air.
Independent Humidity and Temperature Control: A DOAS unit is highly effective at managing both the latent load (humidity) and a portion of the sensible load (temperature) of the outdoor air.
Energy Efficiency: Many DOAS units incorporate energy recovery technologies, such as heat exchangers or energy recovery wheels. These components capture energy (heat or coolness) from the exhaust air and transfer it to the incoming fresh air.
